Who doesn’t like homemade apple sauce? Even for the simple fact that it makes your house smell glorious – like a cool fall afternoon…the kind of day you feel like watching a football game outside. Yes, please!
- 10 apples (a variety)
- 1 orange
- half a lemon
- 1/2 cup of brown sugar
- 1 stick of salted butter
- 2 tablespoons of cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of all spice and nutmeg
First – you need to peel and core all of your apples – then cut into quarters.
Next – zest the orange and the 1/2 lemon. Then, juice them both. Put the apples in a dutch oven or a very large casserole dish.
Cover the apples with the zest and the fresh juices – then top with all the spices and sugar. Then, cut the butter into chunks and mix in. Stir everything so it’s evenly coated.
Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Once it’s out of the oven, mash lightly and serve.
It’s even good on toast!
